2014 USATF National Club Team 8 km Championships

The Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K—the world’s largest 8K road race—will host the second annual USATF National Club Team 8 km Championships for USATF-member racing teams. The event attracts the top local, regional and national club teams to the flat and fast streets of Chicago to compete for a $20,000 prize purse and a national title.

Last year’s inaugural edition featured 46 teams from across the U.S. The Hansons-Brooks Distance Project of Michigan was crowned champions in both divisions, with hard-fought victories over the Asics Aggies of California on the men’s side and Cleveland Elite Development of Ohio on the women’s side.

We hope your club will be part of this year’s action, as the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K continues its tradition of being one of the year’s premier competitions for elite club teams.

Divisions and scoring

Teams will compete in two championship divisions—men’s and women’s—and can enter a maximum of five (5) runners per team. Men’s teams must enter a minimum of four (4) runners per team, and women’s teams must enter a minimum of three (3) runners. In the men’s division, the top four (4) finishers will count toward team scoring; in the women’s division, the top three (3) finishers will count toward team scoring. The teams with the lowest combined finish time among their scoring runners will be declared the winners. Clock time (gun time) will be the official recorded time for all USATF Championship participants.

Awards and prize money

Event trophies will be presented to the overall team champions, USATF Championship medals will go to the top three (3) teams, and prize money* will be awarded to the top five (5) teams as follows.

Qualifications and eligibility

Eligibility for the USATF National Club Team 8 km Championships is based on USATF Club Competition Rules. All participating clubs must be registered with USATF for 2014, and all athletes entering as part of a club must be affiliated with that club as part of their current USATF membership. To qualify for the USATF Championship division, team members must meet the following time standards* set forth by the event:

*Participants must verify their qualifying times prior to registration by sending proof of performance in the form of an official finisher certificate or website link to official race result.

If a club or individual does not meet the qualifications for the USATF Championship division, they can participate individually or as part of the Open Team Competition. Only teams in the USATF National Club Team 8 km Championships will be eligible for prize money, race day amenities, and the extended registration deadline.

Registration

Each 3-5-person team (minimum of 3 for women’s teams and minimum of 4 for men’s teams) is required to pay a $100 team registration fee. The team registration fee covers the cost of entry for all team members (maximum 5 members per team), meaning that participants in the USATF National Club Team 8 km Championships need not pay the $45 individual registration fee or register individually online.

Elite teams have an extended registration deadline of Friday, March 14. Entries for the USATF National Club Team 8 km Championships will not be accepted and team rosters cannot be altered after the registration deadline.

Additional Elite Club Competition amenities

On race day, all USATF Championship participants will be assigned to the Elite Start Corral and will have access to a secure tented area in close proximity to the start/finish areas with secure gear check, restroom facilities, water and Gatorade.
