Race weekend

Runners at the start

The Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle is a celebration that catapults Chicago from a season of hibernation to a season of movement. This year, you’re turning the streets of your neighborhood green and celebrating this great tradition in a new and unique way.

Race weekend will kick off on Friday, March 19 and culminate on Sunday, March 21. Over the course of the weekend, Shufflers can take part in the virtual 8K run, 2-Mile walk or The Mile.

What is a virtual race?

A virtual race provides an opportunity for participants to create a race experience in their own communities. While nothing can replace the excitement of mass participation road races, a virtual run allows participants to set a goal and celebrate the accomplishment of crossing their own finish lines.

Virtual race reminders

As we navigate this unique time, we recognize the journey to the finish line is going to look different than what participants would have experienced on race day. Everyone is encouraged to read the following considerations when planning their virtual race.

  • Create a hydration plan for your run to ensure you are drinking enough fluids and utilizing both water and a sports drink like Gatorade to stay hydrated and maintain your sodium levels.
  • Pay attention to your local weather forecast and dress for the appropriate weather conditions. Note, that conditions may change throughout the duration of your run. If conditions don’t look ideal for your race, follow local guidance and consider participating at a later date.
  • When planning your course route, follow guidance from local government and public health officials to safely complete the distance of your choice in your own community. Participants are encouraged to obey traffic signals and identified pedestrian crossings during their run.
  • Most importantly, stay within your physical limits and listen to your body during your run. Do not ignore pain and/or discomfort that may result from your participation. If necessary, stop your run and seek medical attention especially if you experience new or persistent symptoms that do not resolve with rest or are abnormal for yourself.

Digital bib number

Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle participants will have access to digital event bib numbers (individual or team). Shufflers can download their official bib number by clicking on “Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle” under the “Your Registrations” tab in their participant account.
