The Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K announced today it earned Gold Level Certification from the Council for Responsible Sport. The Council formally recognized the successful implementation of socially and environmentally responsible practices at the 2016 event.

CHICAGO RUNNERS CELEBRATE THE SPRING RACING SEASON AT THE 2016 BANK OF AMERICA SHAMROCK SHUFFLE 8K
A sea of green and sunny skies greeted runners at the 37th annual Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K. After blizzard-like conditions seized the Windy City 24 hours before the race, more than 23,000 runners crossed the finish line in Grant Park. Defending champion, Stephen Sambu, 27, of Tucson, Ariz., broke the tape first well ahead of the pack in 22:45. Alexi Pappas, 26, of Eugene, Ore., repeated as the women’s champion in 26:17.

Registration for the 2016 Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K opens today at 1 p.m. Central Time. The classic road race is an annual tradition for runners looking to continue the essence of the St. Patrick’s Day celebration with a fun run through the heart of Chicago. The 2016 race will be held on Sunday, April 3, and will welcome thousands runners on a one-of-a-kind course that weaves its way through Chicago’s Loop, starting and finishing in Grant Park. The first 8,000 runners to sign up for the race will receive a $40 discounted entry. Once the 8,000-runner limit is reached the registration fee will increase to $50. Approximately 23,000 runners participated in the 36th annual Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K. With unusually cool temperatures and windy conditions participants donned festive running gear while making their way through Chicago’s Loop. Breaking the tape first was Stephen Sambu, 26, of Tucson, Ariz., in 23:03. The women’s winner was Alexi Pappas, 25, of Eugene, Ore., in 26:32.

CHICAGO RUNNERS CELEBRATE SPRING AT THE 2014 BANK OF AMERICA SHAMROCK SHUFFLE 8K
More than 30,000 runners filled the streets of Chicago for the 35th anniversary Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K. Cool temperatures and sunshine brought runners out in full force for a tour of Chicago’s Loop, followed by a Post-Race Party at Buckingham Fountain. The first runner across the finish line was Jacob Riley, 25, of Rochester, Mich., in 23:06. The women’s winner was Katie Kellner, 22, of Rochester Hills, Mich., in 27:13. Both winners are members of the Hansons-Brooks Distance Project.

Record-setting cold and a snow-filled winter did not slow Chicago-area runners from registering for this year’s 35th Anniversary Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K, the world’s largest 8-kilometer road race, which closed today when the 40,000-participant capacity was reached. Registration for the March 30 event opened on January 7. The Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K is an annual tradition that signals the kickoff to Chicago’s outdoor running season, which culminates with the Bank of America Chicago Marathon in October.

CHICAGO RUNNERS RING IN SPRING AT THE 2013 BANK OF AMERICA SHAMROCK SHUFFLE 8K
More than 33,000 runners hit the streets of downtown Chicago to ring in the spring at the 34th Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K. Sunny skies and ideal running conditions greeted participants with temperatures in the mid 50s, making for a festive atmosphere on the race course and at the Post-Race Party at Buckingham Fountain. The first runner across the finish line was Phillip Reid, 27, of San Luis Obispo, Calif., in 23:08. The women’s winner was U.S. Olympian Lisa Uhl, 25, of Des Moines, Iowa, in 25:54. Reid’s winning time was the fastest run on the course since 2002.

Before culminating with the Chicago Marathon, Ritzenhein will kick off his outdoor racing season at the 34th Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle 8K on April 7, marking his first appearance at Chicago’s popular spring road race.
