THE MILE

Participant winning The Mile at the 2025 Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle

Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day in Chicago and join the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle race weekend excitement by tackling The Mile on Saturday, March 21. The one-mile race welcomes participants of all abilities, from walkers to families to competitive athletes, to take part in a fun spring race that weaves through Chicago’s front yard, Grant Park. Participants will receive a 2026 race shirt, a finisher’s medal and an event bib and timing device.

ADAPTIVE PROGRAM

The Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle strives to provide accessibility for all athletes with impairments through our Adaptive Program. This program is open to all athletes with a permanent visual, intellectual or physical impairment. Learn more about the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle Adaptive Program.


THE MILE EVENT ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • Registrants for The Mile must be capable of maintaining a 20:00/mile pace, completing the full event distance, start line to finish line, within the event time requirement (hh:mm:ss/00:20:59).
  • Participants must be 8 years of age or older on event day. Participants under 18 years of age must have a statement signed by a parent or legal guardian permitting participation.
  • Sale and/or transfer of race entries/bib numbers is strictly prohibited.
  • All entry fees are non-refundable and may not be deferred toward a future event.
  • Participants must adhere to city, state and other public health guidelines and orders.
  • All participants must be familiar with and abide by the event rules.

BIB PICK-UP

Bib and t-shirt pick-up for The Mile will take place on Friday, March 20 and Saturday, March 21 at Buckingham Fountain in Grant Park. You must pick up your items in advance of your wave start on Saturday. The start area will close five minutes prior to the start of each wave.

11:15 a.m. – Recreational Start
11:40 a.m. – Awards ceremony
12:00 p.m. – Gear check closes

Gear check for The Mile will open at 9:30 a.m. and close at 12 p.m. Gear check will be located in a tent on Ida B. Wells Drive, directly south of The Mile start and finish lines. A brief awards ceremony to recognize the top three men, women and non-binary finishers will be held near the announcer booth at the finish line following the conclusion of the race.

Start corrals will close 15 minutes before the start of the race. Participants will be assigned to a recreational or competitive corral based on their expected time.

The Mile starts and finishes on Ida B. Wells Drive and the course weaves through Grant Park. Course markers will be located at each quarter mile to help guide participants. You must wear your bib number as instructed above throughout the entirety of the race to record an official finish time and place for The Mile.


PROHIBITED DEVICES ON COURSE

Wheeled devices are not permitted for use on The Mile course by anyone other than registered and authorized wheelchair, handcycle or duo team participants. Prohibited wheeled devices include non-registered wheelchairs and handcycles, baby joggers, strollers, skateboards, rollerblades and bicycles. Motorized devices of any kind are prohibited.

The use of selfie-sticks, camera mounts, video devices, computers or any similar devices by anyone while participating in the event is prohibited.

Music devices with headphones are permitted for use on the course; however, participants must be alert to their surroundings at all times and must pay attention to important announcements made in Grant Park and along the course.

Per USATF rules, participants competing for awards, medals or prize money in the individual professional field are prohibited from using personal listening/music devices.
